Universal Long Fashion

The brand spirit
A men's wardrobe imbued with space and time.
A synthesis achieved by embracing diverse geographical spaces and times—past, present, and future.
Unique influences are revealed through their union.
Becoming what I wear.
HumanActa shifts our fundamentally human capacity for clothing our bodies from a passive mode to an active one.
Our clothing is no longer the product of cultural conditioning, but a tool capable of influencing our culture.
While the clothes we once wore reflected the culture we came from, HumanActa invites everyone to wear what they wish to become.
Acting as I am, to be seen as I wish to be.
Being the form that gives rise to the substance.
The luxury of dilettantism as a response to the challenges of our societies.
Within our brand, we breathe fresh air into our creativity and lifestyles by prioritizing the spontaneity of human impulse over the imperatives of the market economy.
Universal Long Fashion
This is a tribute to the Long Now Foundation, whose ideas resonate with the brand’s creation, production, and commercialization processes.
A vision of humanity enduring over the long term—an outlook that fosters an ethic of slowing down our lifestyles.
A celebration of slowness.
Slow Fashion becomes Long Fashion.
To do things slowly is to do them for the long haul.
Slowing down our activities to find joy in simply *being*, while ensuring that future generations can still *be* and *do*.
DILETTANTE
From the Italian dilettante (“amateur”), literally “one who delights”.
Person who practices an activity, an art for pleasure.
DILETTANTISM
Do something out of dilettantism, out of pure dilettantism: Without wanting to do it,
In its genesis, HumanActa is a bit like the rebellious, ostensibly and furiously dilettante offspring of the Hiatus brand.

The Designers
The brand's entire design, management, and manufacturing processes are handled by two people—father and son—united by a shared creative passion and an attentive ear to the world of today.

Jean-Guy Béal Manager, co-designer, couturier. Always creative and sensitive, it was during adolescence—as I became aware of my own uniqueness—that I began making my own clothes. Later, following training in pattern making for high-end ready-to-wear, I co-founded the Hiatus design studio with Jennifer Marano—catering to the styling, pattern-making, and grading needs of ready-to-wear companies—as well as the Hiatus brand, which quickly specialized in men's skirts and produced collections from 2008 to 2020. Drawing on this experience, I decided in 2024 to relaunch a brand that includes trousers and skirts—as well as dresses—for men in its collections. It brings me great joy to see my son take an interest in the project and join me in this adventure—bringing the perspective of his generation, while giving me the feeling that what I have built will endure beyond my own lifetime.

Django Béal Co-designer, graphic designer, artistic advisor. Having grown up immersed in the workshop and the study of garments, I have always sought to make tailoring a language in its own right. My father passed on far more to me than just technical expertise: a curiosity for radical ecology and science fiction, and a way of viewing the world through the lens of potential and long-term thinking. After earning my DNSEP at the Nîmes School of Fine Arts, the desire to join my father in this project came naturally—to continue together the work that has always engaged us. What drives me at HumanActa is the idea that clothing can embody a way of existing—a stance regarding the long term and our place on this planet. Each piece is designed to resonate with the individual’s unique identity, transcending categories. Inspired by age-old designs that have proven their timelessness, our collections emerge from a human rhythm—a production process that rejects the rush. Working with my father, I realize that our approaches—his rooted in craftsmanship, mine fueling those same convictions through artistic practice—naturally unfold together to propose a mythology of clothing: an act of conscious presence in the world.
